LITE: Optical demand is booming. So is the valuation.

An incredible business at a difficult price.

TLDR

  • The valuation already assumes substantial execution. Q1 FY27 guidance implies roughly a $5.0 billion annualized revenue run rate and approximately $1.7 billion of annualized non-GAAP net income. At an approximately $76 billion market cap, that is still roughly 44x annualized guided earnings - on forward guidance, on non-GAAP net income.
  • Demand continues to exceed supply across several optical product lines. 800G remains the bulk of cloud transceiver shipments, 1.6T has entered production, pump lasers remain effectively sold out, and high-power laser demand has surprised management to the upside.
  • The next leg of growth is broadening beyond traditional transceivers. OCS is ramping, NPO is emerging as an intermediate architecture, and Lumentum received its first external line source module purchase order for delivery in H2 2027 ahead of broader CPO deployments.

Overview

Lumentum exited FY26 with accelerating AI-driven demand across cloud transceivers, laser chips, pump lasers, Optical Circuit Switching, and emerging scale-up optical architectures.

The most important takeaway from the quarter is that the optical opportunity is expanding in several directions at once:

  1. Higher-speed scale-out connectivity is moving from 800G toward 1.6T.
  2. Scale-up networks are beginning to introduce NPO, ELS, and eventually CPO architectures.
  3. Inter-data-center connectivity is increasing demand for pump lasers and long-haul optical capacity.
  4. Optical Circuit Switching is moving from an emerging product into a meaningful revenue contributor.
